It lost its masts and was so badly disabled that it drifted about for 3 months. In the meantime, the food supply was exhausted and lots were cast as to who should be killed to satisfy the hunger of the passengers; but the next morning New York Harbor was sighted and all aboard were saved.
The family remained for a short time in New York, then they moved to Philadelphia, Pa and then to Philipsburg, Pa. Henry established his house in Becaria Twsp, having purchased 260 acres of land, which he cleared and developed into a prosperous farm.
Henry was drafted to fight in the War of 1812.

John was 7 when his parents came to the US. He aided in the work of developing and improving his father's farm.
John lived in a log cabin situated on his father's farm for a number of years, during which time he cleared 125 acres of land. In 1856, he erected a fine 2-story frame residence and a large barn, said to be one of the best in the county.
