These are just a few of the family stories we've collected over the past few years. Not all of them have been verified by other sources. We share them as part of our family's history.

James Porter Myers enlisted in the US Army for service during WWI. He was only 15 years old at the time and he used James Porter as his full name. When it was discovered that he wasn't old enough for service it was too late because he was already based overseas. He was permitted to remain in the service and his name was changed to James Porter Myers on the official records. He earned the Distinguished Service Cross for taking a machine gun nest while fighting in Germany.

Albert Raymond Myers grew up in the small town of Altoona, Pa, a railroad town boasting of the famous Horseshoe Curve and a coal mining industry. He tried his hand at coal mining, but when a drop of cold water dripped from the tunnel ceiling onto his head, that was the end of that career. He became an apprentice painter for the Pennsylvania Railroad.
When WWII came along, Albert was the first draftee from Wilmington, De where he was living at the time. He was assigned to the signal corps. He served in both major theaters of the war. Along with the American Defense Service Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Medal, the European Africa-Middle Eastern Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal, Albert was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in action. At some point in his military career, he was introduced to southern California and when the war was over he settled in Riverside.
