Albert Raymond Myers grew up in the small town of Altoona, Pa, a railroad
town boasting of the famous Horseshoe Curve and a coal mining industry. He tried
his hand at coal mining, but when a drop of cold water dripped from the tunnel
ceiling onto his head, that was the end of that career. He became an apprentice
painter for the Pennsylvania Railroad.
When WWII came along, Albert was the first draftee from Wilmington, De where
he was living at the time. He was assigned to the signal corps. He served in
both major theaters of the war. Along with the American Defense Service Medal,
the Asiatic-Pacific Medal, the European Africa-Middle Eastern Service Medal, and
the Good Conduct Medal, Albert was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received
in action. At some point in his military career, he was introduced to southern
California and when the war was over he settled in Riverside. |
