Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is lovely, whatever is
admirable - if anything is excellent or praiseworthy - think about such things. -- Philippians 4:8

ANTI-ACLU
The ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) is beginning to get way out of line. Of course, this is only my opinion, but I'm sure there are many more people out there who share this opinion. Don't get me wrong, they still do a lot of good; however, there's now a lot of cases involving the ACLU that are eventually going to do more harm than good.
Let's start with an example or two of the good. The ACLU has been involved with the fight for the equality of all races. Nothing wrong here. In fact, if it wasn't for groups like the ACLU, we'd still be seeing segregation, unfair hiring practices, and a very lopsided economy. We can agree there's still a lot of prejudice in our country and a lot of work still needs to be done, but we're a long way from how things used to be. Equality and viewing each other as human beings is a goal we need to continue to pursue.
Then there are the thousands, if not millions, of Americans that have some form of disability that have been greatly aided by organizations such as the ACLU. Before such concerns were brought to public attention, many of these people were restricted in their actions. Some people were even completely homebound because they lacked the means to navigate in a world that never thought about their special needs. Again, there's still a lot of work that needs to be done to assist our nation's disabled, but we're moving forward.
The thing that the above mentioned causes have in common is making America a better place for all of the citizens. The root for the changes is love and compassion, at least I hope so. Another common thread is that no person or group of people have lost any of their freedoms in order to accommodate the group or groups that have been helped to gain their own freedom. In fact, many more people have gained previously unfounded freedom because the minorities and disabled have opened new doors by providing new and innovative ways of doing things that make life easier for everyone.
But now we come to the bad or, as the old saying goes, the other shoe drops. Now the ACLU is involved in court cases that involve our Constitutional right to freedom of religion. Contrary to what some people may say, it's a freedom of religion, not a freedom from religion. I, and many others, agree that everyone is free to choose whether or not they believe in the God of the Bible, the gods of other religions, or no God at all. But the ACLU is on their way to eradicating all mention of the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. They want to delete "one nation, under God" from the Pledge of Allegiance, erase "In God we trust" from our currency, and destroy all plaques that mention God that are found in public places.
Some Christians even agree with the eradication of God in public places. They feel we all need to be tolerant of other people's beliefs. Think about this - our children can't hear anything about God in public schools yet history and culture classes discuss the gods of other religions when the lectures focus on foreign countries. Another thing to think about is whether or not you want to lose your right to display your Christian symbols on your own property or outside your church. It's only one small step from taking God out of the public square to laws prohibiting you and I from displaying a nativity scene on our front lawns for Christmas. This isn't so far-fetched. If a cross or nativity scene offends a passer-by if it's located in the town's park, those same symbols will offend the same person as they drive by your house.
Now for a few questions for those who are either members of the ACLU or support the organization. Do you consider yourselves Christians? Do you really believe in the equality of all people and viewpoints? Are you truly interested in fighting for the rights of everyone?
The main difference between the fight for racial equality or helping the disabled and these new battles is in the freedom and rights for everyone. In the first two cases I mentioned, no one person or group lost anything. In the latter case, Christians are losing their Constitutional right to practice their religion so others may have a greater right to no religion at all. I don't want to force my Christian beliefs on any person, but I'll never stand by and let others tell me I can't obey God's laws, follow Christ's teachings, or in any way demonstrate my love of God. Groups like the ACLU need to be stopped before we lose all of our rights as Christians.
