Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever
is noble, whatever is lovely, whatever is
admirable
- if anything is excellent or praiseworthy - think about such things. --

BLESSINGS FROM THE MOUNT |
|
Matthew 5:3-12 NIV |
|
Blessed are the poor in
spirit - addressed to those who are
needing God and choose to open their hearts to him -
for theirs is the kingdom of
Heaven - they'll live eternally in
God's presence.
Blessed are those who mourn
- addressed to those who are greatly saddened by an event in their life or
the lives of loved ones -
for they will be comforted
- God will provide the means to overcome their grief.
Blessed are the meek
- addressed to those who are humble before God and their fellow man -
for they will inherit
the earth - the oppressors will not
inhabit God's new earth.
Blessed are those who hunger
and thirst for righteousness -
addressed to those who are seeking harmony with and obedience to God's
will - for they will be
filled - God will fill them with the
knowledge to conform and with the wisdom to apply the knowledge in their
lives.
Blessed are the merciful
- addressed to those who forgive others -
for they will be shown mercy
- as they've forgiven others, so God will forgive their sins.
Blessed are the pure in heart
- addressed to those who act without underlying intentions of being paid
in kind or from malice -
for they will see God
- they shall look on the true form of God.
Blessed are the peacemakers
- addressed to those who stop the hatred and end disagreements -
for they shall be called the
sons of God - they become joint heirs
with Christ to the Kingdom of Heaven.
Blessed are those who are
persecuted because of righteousness -
addressed to those who suffer penalties for conforming to God's will -
for theirs is the
kingdom of heaven - they will live
eternally in God's presence.
Blessed are you when people
insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you
because of me - addressed to those who
are mistreated because they believe in the one true God and are followers
of Christ.
Rejoice
and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way
they persecuted the prophets before you
- the followers of Christ are to take cheer in the fact that they're
different from the unbelievers. Once life is over, we'll be rewarded for
our faith and hope in the message of God's truth. Follow the examples
provided by the prophets, persevere, and remain faithful no matter what
others may do or say. |
