Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever
is noble, whatever is lovely, whatever is
admirable
- if anything is excellent or praiseworthy - think about such things. --

DIVINE HEALING |

Many people ask if God still
heals today? Of course the answer is yes. However, we all know that
diseases and infirmities are a part of life. Everyone, even well know
faith healers, get sick.
A few people have claimed that physical healing
is found in the atonement of Christ. The passage in Isaiah 53:5 is also
found in 1 Peter 2:24:
He himself bore our sin in his body on the cross, so that, free from sins,
we might live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.
This clearly shows us that the healing spoken of in these passages is
primarily spiritual and not physical.
There are some teachers that have tried to tie
the healing into the atonement of Christ by taking passages like Isaiah
53:4 and 5 out of context. It is so very easy to see that physical healing
is not part of the atonement. Simple common sense will tell you this. The
fact is everyone in the world still gets sick. No person would ever get
sick if what these faith healers say is true but even the most renowned of
these eventually die. Kathryn Kuhlman suffered from heart disease for
nearly twenty years and finally died from it. Kenneth Hagin died of heart
disease after spending many days of suffering in a cardiac care unit. Oral
Roberts has had open heart surgery and now wears a pace maker. Joyce
Meyers is being treated for breast cancer. E.W. Kenyon died in a coma
brought on by a malignant tumor. The list could go on and on. The fact is
that everyone is going to die. Even every one of the faith healers will
get sick and die. That is just part of life. We live in a fallen world and
sickness and disease will always be a part of the human condition until
the second coming of Christ.
Of course we must be open to the reality that it
may not be God's will for everyone to be healed of all their sickness or
disease, as we can see in the life of Paul. God allowed Paul to suffer
from physical disease, for His glory (2 Corinthians 12:7-10).
True faith involves a complete surrender of our
lives to the will of God, whatever the circumstances are, even when God
chooses not to heal us. We are willing to be healed, or willing to remain
in sickness, or even willing to die. We are willing to pray in complete
faith as Christ did in the garden, "If it be Thy will." There is no
scriptural evidence that it is God's will to heal every person. Many
times, our being sick shows us that we are Spirit-filled, as we find the
Holy Spirit helping us in the midst of our illness.
If God allows us to be sick and refuses to heal
us, we should joyfully accept His will and glorify Him through every
situation He chooses to lead us. |
