Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever
is noble, whatever is lovely, whatever is
admirable
- if anything is excellent or praiseworthy - think about such things. --
Philippians 4:8 |

AN OPEN BOOK |
A book sits upon a shelf,
covered over by layers of dust.
It means nothing there by itself.
To discover its meaning, open it I must.
Its cover is drab and plain; no colors, pictures, or words.
Topic of war, art, person, or train?
To open the pages, I untie a heavy cord.
The subject is the life I live;
every thought, belief, and deed;
every bit of me I have to give;
everything I own, everything I need.
It contains the secrets I keep,
some are good, some are bad.
For some I'm happy, for others I weep;
times of anger or frustration, times of tidings glad.
There are only two who know the story,
my God and I.
About this I do not worry -
that God sees all with His eyes.
As a judge He is impartial and fair.
He accepts my faults, He accepts what's good,
with all the bad, about me He cares.
He sent His son, for me,
to die on a cross of wood.
Whatever I may do, whatever I may say,
in His hand my life He will hold.
His love is with me to stay;
as when I was young, also when I'm old.
Knowing His love, I work, I play, I sleep;
upon my every move He does look.
There is nothing from Him I can keep,
my life, to God, is an open book. |
