Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever
is noble, whatever is lovely, whatever is
admirable
- if anything is excellent or praiseworthy - think about such things. --

SAINTS |
|
Who are the saints we hear so much about?
Where did they live? What did they do?
Of course there are eleven of the disciples,
also millions of others who have worked for God.
Many of their identities we will never know,
the book containing the names is kept by the Lord.
Their actions merit rewards untold
and crowns of glory will adorn their heads.
But who here below is to judge and let us know
which of those people we should emulate?
A priest, a bishop, or a pope?
No fellow Christians - only God has that privilege.
For by now you must realize that many's the time
people have been elevated in the eyes of man,
only to find that at some later time
those same people came crashing from the pedestal.
Please understand the point,
people like Mother Theresa have done great things.
They are resting at the side of the Lord,
resting eternal after years of toil.
But what is man's gauge for determining sainthood?
Must a person give up all? Must they perform miracles?
Must it be proven a miracle happened
because of praying to that person or touching their relic?
If that be the case, most of us have no chance
of being elevated to sainthood by human standards.
The factory worker, the grocery clerk, the singer of psalms,
must be content with a life of mediocrity.
But what religious leaders can't see,
there are many more simple works than great.
They will never see what many people do,
the miracles they perform every day of their lives.
One must not heal the sick or raise the dead
to provide a miracle to someone in need.
Witness the recovering alcoholic, the homeless now sheltered;
some unseen person lent them a hand.
The glory must go to God,
He is the one who provided the miracle.
He sent someone into another's life
to pull that person from a world of strife.
There are many more saints in Heaven above
and listed in God's great Book of Life
than will ever be written on pages unstable
in churches and cathedrals on the earthly plain.
Do not be discouraged;
you may never be recognized as a saint here below.
Continue to live in the ways of God
and you will be a saint when life here is ended. |
