Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever
is noble, whatever is lovely, whatever is
admirable
- if anything is excellent or praiseworthy - think about such things. --

VIRTUAL FRIENDS |
|
A computer can be a powerful tool. It opens
the world at the touch of a button. At this time and place in history,
almost every bit of information has been entered into a computer - whether
as a webpage, CD-ROM, or e-mail. With access to one of these little boxes, a
person can play a game, read a book, take college classes, or talk to
people. It's not all good; there is also free access to pornography, hate
groups, etc. People can travel the world without leaving their homes.
With some selective searching, a home (chat category) can be found among
the confusion of the many webpages. Like all homes, it's in a neighborhood
of different types of homes (chat categories of various topics). In the
house are many rooms (subcategories of the main topic). Friends drop by to
visit at all times of the day.
Some of the most caring of friends can be found in chat rooms. Although
they may never meet face-to-face, these friends can develop the closest of
relationships. Once a common interest is found it's used as the basis of a
long and continuous friendship. There may be people who doubt the bonds
formed in cyber-space, but I've been blessed with many "virtual" friends.
I've found a home in a room of Christian seniors. We were drawn to this
room from different states and countries, for different reasons. Some people
come for relaxation, some because it's free from bad things, some for a
shoulder to lean on, and some seeking God. We LOL (laugh out loud), ROFL
(roll on floor laughing), cry, discuss weather, listen to people's problems,
give advice, quote scripture, PTL (praise the Lord), pray for each other -
the same kinds of things we would be doing if we were gathered in fellowship
at a church. And like all friends, we have our disagreements, say things
we're sorry for, and ignore one another. All of these things, taken
together, are what builds solid friendships.
What are their names? There are animals (Lizard, Duv, Lamb), there are
relatives (Grandpa, Papa, Auntie), and there are people (Debby, Picasso,
Meech, Irshz). Religious names abound (Mmaker, Blesser, Naz). Some are
singers, preachers, and bits of nature (Nizeday, Starz, Sunny). I even know
a PBC (peanut butter cup), a Magic, and a teacher (iteachkidz). There are
many others that I didn't mention, but I love them all. And of course there
is Jesus (not a nickname) who is never seen, but is with us at all times in
this wonderful room.
Anytime I have a problem, a doubt, a fear, I know I can go to my room
and find someone caring enough to whom I can talk. These friends accept me
for who I am, without question. They welcome everyone with open arms. Oh,
for the world to be filled with friends like these good Christians.
If we never meet in person on this earth, I'm filled with the joy at the
thought that we'll all meet in the future in a much better place. Until that
day may GBY (God bless you) and GGWY (God go with you). I send a ( ( ( (my
friends) ) ) ) (virtual hug).
Love always,
